BSA- took its grad uatio n tour from
La Mirada to Lake Arrowhead Boy
SCout carq> and returned. Project
BSA is a motorcycle safety program
in which fifteen Explorer SCouts
were taught to ride motorcycles. The
program is co-sponsored by the

indicated that tbe greate st need was
in the area of rider training. The
greatest percentage of the accidents
occuring can be attributed to a lack
of skill on the part of the operator.
With tbis in mind. the co-sponsors
began a formal training program on
June 10, 1967. and have carried it

The objective of this pilot prograjD is to develop a co.urse of study
which will provide novice motorcycle
riders with the tools they need to
acquire the skills and knowledge
necessary for safe operation of a

.All of the SCouts are me mbers of
Explorer Post 981-X which is sponsored by the La Mirada First Methodist Church. The boys met each
saturday morning for three hours of
highly supervised training. The training was intentionally kept at a slow
pace in order to better evaluate each
phase and, as a result. a com prehens.ive pJogram was developed.
