It·s off Hwy. 395. out toward Phelan Road. -. Turning left on Phelan Rd., the spot is approximately two miles (or three dips) later. There, on top of a hill on the .side of the railroad tracks is a dirt road. which heads to 'the left. The road branches into two paths. both of whicb lead to a small (20x20') brick building. One road is clear. the other has two cables - one stretched across it. There are no flags or other markings on the cables. Hazelwood's bike cleared the first foot-high cable but he was abruptly halted by the highe r one. and thrown from his machine. He was injured, tho'ugh fortunately not seriously, and wanted to let other riders know of the hazard. Hazelwood may not have heen the first rider to com e to grief at that particular location. for he found a broken clutch handle lying close by. Other riders are urged to let us know when they encounter dangerous obstacles such as this, and our thanks to Ken Hazelwood for his ~ompt warning. .!' The purpose of the Competition Congress will be the same. however, it will require that most members be elected insead of appointed. Two AMA staff members will attend; the Director of Compeition and the Executive Director, who will serve as Chairman of the Congress. If the congress idea is adopted the first official meeting of the group would take place in November of 1968 to set the' rules for 1969.
