It·.; getting to be a weekly contest between the weather man and the racers. There weren·t as many Experts as usual. due to the fact that most of them ba ve headed for the midwest racing circuit. We wi 11 also be heading for the Short Track National. then catch some of the midwest race tracks for a few weeks. The Trophy Dash saturday night was a mixture of Novice. Amateur. and Expert. Red McKeen on a Bultaco won with a straightaway lead. Troplly Dalh lineup at Dorsey Speedway _ IL to R) Buddy Barnes, IIlke II)'ers. Earl lI)'ers, EddIe Adkins, Red IIcKftIl, Don Twl a- Don Twigg on a Ducati and Mike Meyers aboard a Harley Sprint battled it out for second place. Meyers cros sed the finish line about a wheel ahead of Twigg. for second place honors. Sears Sizzles The first Semi was won by Don Twigg. but the surprise of the night was Dick Sears on a Triumph. Dick rode faster and better then he bas ever ridden before. He says he wants to make his old hoss Jim Hunter proud of him. and let him stay here on the east coast. Dick got a third place hehind Mike Myers. Another rider. Henry Paradis. who rode his first professional race in two yeaJs. did a beautiful job of taking fourth place. In the second Semi Red McKeen and Earl Myers. both riding Bultacos, jumped out in the lead. Those two put on a really great race. There wasn't a wheel's distance between the two of them at any time during the entire ten laps. Everyone thought it was going to be a dead heat but Earl crossed the finish line a fraction of a wheel ahead of McKeen. Third place was Luke Zechman and fourth John Porter. Both riders were aboard Bultacos. These Novices are doing a good job of making the Main weekly along with the Experts. 1n the main. whe n the flag was dropped. Don Twigg jumped into the lead. Dick Sears did a wheelie across the track in front on Mike Myers, Earl Myers and Red McKeen. All three had to shut off until Sears got straightened around. McKeen was last into the corner. but picked his way through the pack until he came up on Dick Sears who was in second. Sears gave him a fit but he finally got by him and started for Twigg. There just weren·t enough laps in the race for McKeen, who took second place with Sears in for third. There are only four more races this season here at Dorsey and we hope to make a couple of them when we come back from the midwest.
