Missing wins in both heat race and Trophy Dash despite (or due to) some hair-raising tactics, Van Leeuwen settled down in the I5-lap Main, took over the reins from early leader Eddie Mulder on lap three, and s-t-re-t-e-h-e-d it out. At the finish, Van Leeuwen's closest Ii val, Dallas Baker. was just entering the final half-mile sweeper, so far ahead was the Flying Dutchman. Thi rd place went to steady Eddie Mulder ahead of Bob Bailey, who advanced from a distant seventh in smooth, heads-up fashion. Dave Palmer, fifth plac'e finisher, fell on lap 12 while running a few scant lengths behind the leader. Though remounting quickly, he was unable to close the gap in the time remaining. Still, he took home a trophy for earlier victory in the Dash, over CQPpage, van Leeuwen and Mulder. In the Main,Coppage and another top contender, Clyde Litch, fell, recovered. and continued to the finish, but wound up far back in the field. Rounding out the top ten were Rich Thorwaldson, Dan Haaby, Mike Haney, Bill Manley and Butch Land- Baker (Montesa) and Jim Peterson (BSA) all the way. (Results on pace 16) ' 'til.
