Called the SOo./FIVE, the new machine packs twice the displacement found in Suzuki's world record holding 250cc X-6 Hustler, and according to U.S. suzuki Motor Corporation president. Osamu Suzuki. its construction represents an engineering accomplishment heretofore thought impossible. Only the German DKW company previously manufactured a 500cc 2-stroke, in 1936. It was also a twin cylinder. 867 (714) TU 5-3445 USUMIOIL rated tires. A double cradle frame is used. and the new cycle weighs in at about 383 pounds dry. Additionally, the aluminum twin cylinder engine's carburetors (called -altitude compensating" by u.S. Suzuki) insure proper 'fuel-to-air ratios regardless of altitude or engine rpm. The 500/FIVE is a major engineering break-through and it is a marketing achievement that may well turn the volatile young sportcycle industry inside out. Suzuki representatives state that the 500/FIVE will be in dealer s howrooms in -early autumn-, and their new sport cycle would be available in a choice of three metallic colorsred, blue. and gold. Steel fenders, tank trim, rims and exhausts are finished in high quality chrome that is in keeping with the SOO/FIVE's prestige position in the Suzuki line. A -Performance Panel- including a separate tachometer and speedometer as standard equipment marks another first for the Soo/FIVE, Suzuki spokesmen point out that 'SOO'/FIVE also offers the first five sPeed gear box in this class, and they further note that this explains the -FIVEpart of the 500/FIVE name.
