MuaBlSrsll WillS ATHENA "NA1I011Al" A cool July 3rd evening started the long, hot summer in Athena, Oregon with the Chamber of Commerce's first annual 100cc flat track race. S.pna - Bill and Jack. The race, the big A Main, got off to a perfect start. The riders were tightly bunched during the first half of the 10 lap race. On lap nine it happened, and it was a heart breaker for Kawasaki rider Jerry Dobbins of Portland, Oregon. He'd held oft a pack of 4 snarling, hometown-distributed Hodakas for most of the race when his machine quit and close riding Tom Bruckenstein of Orland, California rode his 90cc Ace-90 on to victory and claimed the $75. winner's purse. Sixteen-year-old Bruckenstein is a marvelous rider with a smooth deceptive style that doesn't look fast, but a long list of Northern California wins prove that he is. Next year the Athena Chamber of Commerce pledges a bigger and even better 4th of July clambake. Would you believe - the Athena 100cc Nationals?
