Since there were only two riders entered they rode a four lap exhibition race. Debbie Jacklin jVOn, neither of the girls bad any trouble with the mud. The next tour heats were for 100cc hikes with Rick Whitiacre showing the way from start to finish. The heats had only six or seven riders and it didn't take them long to stretch out after the first turn. The one coming out first, usually won. There were three heats in the 250cc class and in the second heat several riders got into a kind of hurry and went down. So they had a restart and everyone got off alright the second time. The first real excitement was in the 250 Amateul'" Expert heat. Jacklin jumped out front and led all the way until the next to last lap, when he lost it after the jump and had to settle for last place. It just wasn't his day because he didn't do well in the Main elther. Gene Saitone bad a fairly rough time in his 250cc Amateul'"Expert heat but came through with flying colors. The rest of the heats were run of[ smoothly as usual, except that the intermission was a little long. Best Race The best race of the day was in the 250 Am-Ex Main. It started with a foul'" way battle for first then Tim Fitzgerald stretched his lead to finish unmolested. But Hanstein. Jacklin dropped out of contention early however and Saitone and Russell were wheel to wheel for several laps. Finally Saitone got by and had his work cut out for him in trying to catch Hanstein, who bad a pretty good lead in second. But Saitone wasn't to be denied and he caught him, almost passed him, and lost. by the widtb of a tire at the finish. They were even coming over the jump and finished that way. This was the closest anlr best fought race of the day. In the 350 Main there were five Handas and they stayed so close together it seemed like they were playing follow the leader with Mike Whitesicle. In the 500 Main three BSA's jumped out in front but Tom Murphy, on a Matchless, came UP to do battle and emerged the victor. It was a nice, fast race all the way. Gene Saitone took a quick lead in the 500 Am-Ex Main with Mel Grisel and Stan Stanton right behind. Mel tried to get him several times oot that 360 Maico was just too much for the BSA. It seems the Maico is mare than a match for the 500 on a fairly short and rough course. He had bad luck in the 250 race but wasn't worried in this event. In the 650 Main Kreeger took off like his tail was on fire and it looked like he would win hands down but he developed some kind of trouble and pulled off the track. That left Bob Robertson and Ashley Jeffery to do battie for first and that they did. Bob led for awhile with Jeffery right on his tail but on the last lap Jeffery slipped by to lead the rest of the way. All in all it was an interesting and entertaining day. All the races were good, it was kind of surprising there weren't mare spills in the mud holes because last year hardly anyone made it through without falling down at least once.
