PICK THE RED ONE I( Number one trail bike rider Jack 1I0rian makes hurried pit stop. Althoulh Jack ran as hard as he could, he manaled only third place. Even the best riders can't win all the tim.. sand wash, which had been overlooked io my haste to repass the riders in front of me. Looking hack, I saw that everyone had turned around and was now following me, and we stayed in the sandwasb until we went UP a sandy, rocky bilL At the top of tbe bill I couldn't find the trail right away because, to my surprise, tbere wasn't mucb of a trail cut in as only about half a dozen bikes bad gone before me. Tbe trail was also a little twisty through the busbes, which made it hard to follow. Coming into tbe pits at the end of lap one, tbe- first five were Frank Wbeeler, Tom Fee, Jack Morgan, Jack Froelich, all on Hodakas, and Wes Anderson, Jr., H.A. It was a lot easier to follow the course the second and tbird laps because tbere was a good trail cut in, and tbe two long, deep sandwasbes got even deeper, causing some beating-up problems. Finally making it to the finisb I was told that some of tbe riders wbo got lost were a little upset, but as for myself, I know better than to follow the riders in front of me and miss the course markings (although tbere could bave been more lime and orange ribbon). Bob Dean, tunlnl one of the hew Triumphs shortly before the blastoff. The winner was Tom Fee-, Big Frank Wheeler, took second; Jack Morgan, was third; and Jack Froelich, fourth.
