SOme 300 Yamllba I)lOtorcycle dealers met at CaeS&f"s P&1&ce on Jenuary 30 end 31. represeDtIn& a nationwide network of 1.100 Yam&b& dealers. Sales of the Yam&b& ·sportcycles· wh1ch were first brought to this country in 1958. have douhled every year since its introduction. and in 1966 reached over 100.000 units. Yamaha anticipates in 1967 sales in their motorcycle division will subslantlally exceed the previous year's sales. Yamab& had very humble beginnings in 1887 when a reed organ maker n&med TorUusu Yamllba first had en opportunity to work with an American organ. From these humhle beg1nn!n&s Yamllba now employs some 15.000 people in JaPan end some 400 people in the U.s. They market their products in nearly every country of the free world. The dealers at the meeting in Las Veps were being introduced to 7 new motorcycle models for 1967. Yamaba is m&king its strongest bid ever in 1967 to become the number one motorcycle seller in the U.S. Dealers heard Mr. King Ringer and Mr. Jack Schwutz give professional advice on retail sales methods and telephone techniques. Over 500 authorized Norton. Ducati and Moto-Guzzi Matchless. dealers attended. The regional meetings were supported by visiting VlPs from the newly formed Norton-Villiers operation in London, from the Ducati-Mecannica factory in Bologn&. Italy. and the Mot o-Guzzi plant in Mandello Del Lario. Italy. Norton and Matchless interests were represented by DOne other than Mr. John Nev1lle. ViceoChs1rman and Chlef Executive. and Mr. John Pisker. Managing Director. Both of these gentlemen head Norton-V1lliers. a division of the giant Manganese Bronze Holding Corporation. who are directiDi the efforts of Norton and Matchless. Others from EneIand included Mr. Fred Neill and Mr. W1111am Colquhoun. Ducati representstives included Mr. Georgio Slancart and Mr. Enzio Anconel11. while Moto-Guzzi spokesmen were Engineer Michele Bianchi and Engineer I. Renzett1. From the ranks of the Berliner stsff. Messrs. Henry Rissman. Jack Gregg. Heinz Kegler. Cornelio Leoni and Johnny scb&effer took over the detailed schooling and technical instructions of all the Berliner models. At a closed session for dealers oniy. Messrs. Michael Berliner. T. Kalrnan and Kenneth Smith reviewed in detail plans for 1967. including a new parts and labor 'warranty program. February 12th. The fast moving program includes a minimum of 15 beat 'races and main events. Factory teams from Yamllba. Suzuki. Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki will meet for the first time this year in the 250cc lightWeight raciDi class and will be preparing for next month·s national road racing sPeed week at Daytona. Florida. There will be classes for all sizes from 50cc to 1.000cc racing machines. plus new special production classes for street equipped machines under 251cc. The races are open to all. with many new riders joining the fast growing ranks in the production classes. To give a full afternoon of racing action. two courses will he used. The big bikes race on the 1.4 mile course that is .used for the annual 75 mile National Cb&mpionship race in September wh1le the smaller machines end prockJction classes race on a new sborter course that b&s all tbe action in tull view of the grandstands.
