at the Elsinore Race Track, , ,
The racers were out in force Saturday
night hefore last. 150 of them in all,
plus 330 spectators for the fourth Elsinore ScramhIes on a mild winter night.
The track surface had sustained some
minor rain damage, but no gripes were
heard. Owing to the large numher of
riders, the program was longer than
usual with forty-five 5-llUJ events and
the Sweepstakes. Of note is the fact
that the Elsinore races are still attracting people from as far away as Las
Vegas, san Diego and Ventura.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS
All the way from san Clemente hails
Bob Grover. Honda mounted novice who
put in a rewarding night of riding, considering Bah and his hard-working crew
of two arrived late for only one practice
lap before the races. Winning a 2nd in
the 350 Heat, 2nd place in the Open and
a First in the 350 Novice Maln, Bob
also led the experts in the 250 Maln for
a while, finishing back in the pack.
Good show, Bob! In this league is Paul
Coberly, Bultaco mounted with only ~wo
races and four weeks experience since
the cast was removed from a leg broken
at Ventura. Paul ran first in two heats,
won the main and is one of the harder
charging riders to appear at Elsinore.
500 EXPERT MAIN
With 14 bikes all trying for that i-.
portant hole shot. the race finally got
under way with Clutch Cargo jumping
into the lead on the first lap. Experts
A. Ellis, Honda mounted and R. Stinnett
really put the pressure on but Clutch
heroically, almost even professionally,
held them off. This race saw much bohbing and weaving back in the pack.
Clutch also came in 2nd in the Sweepstakes after he worked his way up from
fourth.

A FEW INTERESTING SIGHTS
A girl 500cc rider named Lane holding her own agalnst the men for a while,
pink and black polka dot helmet notwithstanding. A rider chasing his mount so
fierce~y after a giant wheelie that he
passed it, another running along hanging
on to the bars for 50 yards, finally able
to jumP on and continue the chase.
TOO MANY PIT RACERS
Aside from attracting too many -pit
racers,- one of Elsmore's best evenings
ended rather late with quite a few people
yawning during the trophy presentation
at 12;30 a.m.
