Fee Clear skies, warm climes and the cool shade of the Whitewater Fish Hatchery picnic grounds accommodated over 500 Southland motorcyclists one Sunday early in October when they rode out of Cherry Pass at Banning(Calif.) on Highway 60 to Whitewater and turned north following an underground river to the Hatchery. The occasion was the 10th Bi-annual Shop Hop and Trout Fry sponsored by the Skip Fordyce Motorcycle Company. When the riders arrived they found the speaker system carrying the final game of the World Series, but the do-it-yourself ..portsmen were only mildly interested. In fact, most of the riders were even unaware of the winning score and had to ask The traditional and focal poiot of the someone else. rally was the delicious trout dinner that has become known by reputation throughout SOuthern California. Skip himself captained the serving table. dispensing the trout and "fresh salt". He was assisted by eight mates wbo served beans. cole slaw, cheese bread, punch and coffee to accompany the main course. They were backed UP by ten colleagues who kept the hot French fried trout coming to the hungry riders. The group served 370 riders in a one hour and forty-five minute period and the feeding continued after the other activities started. This year's shop hop was renamed to commemorate the late Wilbur Ceder, who headed Johnson Motors and assisted the annual shop hop rallies until his recent death. Among his other activities Mr. Ceder elQoyed fishing the ponds of Whitewater to catch the trout that participant of previous shop hops consumed at the rallies. The sweepstakes was the first ticket drawn for the traditional clock trophy donated by Johnson Motors, a member of the Fordyce entourage. The winning ticket was that of Mrs. Ruth Kamph of Pasadena. Following the drawing for the clock, tickets were drawn for over $200 worth of merchandise such as tires, a helmet. shop manuals and chains. If the item wasn't suitable, the winner could swap it for something later at tbe shop. By 3 o'clock the riders were on their way home, well-fed and happy. ENGLISH TRIALS WITH FEMININITY AND PULCHRITUDE (See Photo on froot page) By Ray E. Warner The most unusual and interesting aspect of the SOuthern California Trials Association is English Trials event in the Dana point area, Sunday October 30, the five young ladies competing in a special woman's class. They were all very dainty. very feminine and quite pretty in their o1}t-door clothing while astride those little bikes. Ricky Fry, #30, seemed to have a litUe edge on the other gals. She won first place with apparent ease. Stuck On Trials It's always a very real pleasure to have the girls take part in these activities. And too, they usually seem to have as much fun with the bikes as us men do. However, one young lady, Carrol Stone, #29, found herself momentarily in a rather unenviable situation. While riding through a difficult trap, she dropped her little trail bike and landed in a sitting position on a cactus plant as lar ge as a pan-cake. She was real game about the whole thing though, and aside from the momentary embarrassment, suffered little paln. Even though it was no laughing matter to Carrol at the time, I'm certain she has laughingly told many of her friends about it since then.
