I think that I hold a record of sorts. I ride my X6 Suzuki 104 miles to work and hack everyday. I live in' Riverside and work in Los Aii'geles area. All my expert friends said you had better get a 650 or bigger that a light bike will never hold up. I have several thousand miles on it now so we will find out just how far it will go. I also have a Bultaco that I ride as an Expert in Scrambles. I would like to know if anyone rides to work farther than this? My car cost me about $80.00 a month. This month my bike cost about $20.00. L. MILLS Riverside The Hi Boots Thank You We want to thank all riders wbo participated in OUT Mexico race. We apologize for having to change the location of the race; due to the fact we couldn't race at Rosarita. We only had a week to find a new location or cancel out the event. The nights were wonderful and we did have a full moon. Maybe next year will be bigger and better. HI BOOTS M.C. Ralph Kenyon secretary of the Competition Committee and an expert class known as Division I has been formed for them. At my last monthly race at the Ponderosa the Morgan brothers and Carl Stevens expressed the sentiments of their group to me and as a result I will add a competition trail bike class to my October 2, Hare Scrambles. This class will compete for a three-foot trophy, ride two laps and have a separate start ahead of the no vice trail bike c las s. JACK ROSS Lancaster By Chuck Clayton sembling Bruce. "Even his own mother won't recognize him," our artist congratulated herself when the job was done. Well, we didn't hear from anyone's mother, but reader Walter J. Zimmerman of Atascadero spotted the rider under all the camouflage as Ed Lambert. Not only that, ~immerman pegged the exact time and place that the photo was taken, pointed out that he is riding not a Victor but a 350cc BSA Enduro/Trials model, and told us some interesting information about Ed Lambert. It seem s Ed is a popular and well known novice rider in District 36a. His bike, tuned by John DeMorales, is probably the fastest 21-inch BSA in the area, as Ed has trophied five out of six times racing. His biggest win was the one where we shot his picture, the recent salinas Ramblers-Elks Cerebral Palsy Benefit SCrambles. Because of the small engine size and low equipment costs the trail bike class has rapidly grown popular, as a good place for our young enthusiasts and new novices to learn the sport. some of the men who have entered tbe sport in this class have found that-· the disadvantages of low horsepower to weight ratio and small tire size have challenged their skill and resourcefulness far more than the larger displacement machines where throttle ability largely determines rider success. Remaining with the sport in this class has brought a large degree of skill to them as witnessed by their overall finish positions against the larger bikes. RealiZing their success was outpacing the younger enthusiasts of the class these men have requested an expert class for their own competition. This was agreed upon by Charlie Kurtz III BRUCEVICTOR JACKSON _ BSA ""SA OUR DISCERNING READERS There is just no sense in tIYing to put one over on the readers of Cycle News. Although we are well aware of that fact, necessity caused us to publish in Volume Ill, Number 34 a picture that was not of the racer it purported to depict. It was not the first time we have had to resort to this Innocent subterfuge, nor will it probably be the last. When none of the photos of a winner tum out, you -have to get out the old airbrush.
