• • • • A production model X-6 Suzuki "Hustler" set a new world's speed record for 250Cc production motorcycles at Bonneville Flats, Utah, Friday August 26th. A novice rider, Don Blessing of santa Ana, California, piloted-the X-6 to a record-breaking 101.322 ~h even though winds at the Flats were gusting up to 25mph d.ing the final speed runs. According to Blessing's crew, which included Monte Pierce and Ron Beach both of Award Motors, Costa Mesa, California, tbe X-6 made colsistent qualifying runs of 1l1.l45 mpb on tbe windless day before. Blessing, President of Air Parcel Delivery Service, an air freigbt organization, is truly an amateur rider having logged less than 1,4011 street-miles on an X-6 before making the successful record anelllpt. Tbe 296 peund X-6 also scorell anolber first lIy being flown intact to Bonaeville Flats and having Ibe plane which deliYered the Suzuki and crew act as the 'pit truck' during the speed trials. The new world's record set by the Suzuki 'Hustler" will stand for at least a year, or lIIIIil AMA-sanctioned Bonneville Speed Week in 19&1.
