Hercules and Dave Ekins on a 125cc Zundapp. I can imagine that the men were a litUe disappointed when they arrived and found the equipment promised them would not be available. I hope this does not hinder their chances of doing well at this event. As manY of you know, this is a grueling competition event. taxing the riders' ability as well as the equipment to the utmost. All thanks are due to the Zundapp and Husqvama factories for saving the American Team from utter disappointment. We understand there are several other Americans. Hillier, Barrett and Miller, who were supposed to receive som e machines from Suzuki but because of the airlines strike in America were not able to get the machines and were not even starters. Can you imagine going half way around th e world to participate in an event and when you get there having no ride? we're very happy to see that Marly Lunde is back in the U.S. after a couple of years extended racing tour of Europe. we hope Marty will be able to participate in our September 25th road race at Willow Springs. He would like to ride. but he left all his equipment in England and needs to find someone who is willing to 'give him a ride for this event. Marty will be staying in the United States for the winter in order to earn some money to return and participate in the spring and summer season in Europe. This Sunday. se ptem ber 11th. will give the ACA TT riders an opportunily to compete again on the SOuth Gate TT course. The first event held several weeks ago proved that TT e vents could be held on a short course and made interesting for both spectators and riders. The pit gate opens at 12 noon, practice at· 1:00 p.m. and the first event at 2:00 p.m. That scoop I promised in my column last week has not been confirmed as yet, so keep watching this column. I hope that next week there will be a confirmation so I'll be able to satisfy your curiosily concerning a truly outstanding event which will take place in Southern California. Dewayne Keeter collect.. Careful thereM" COOLIES COLUMN By Wes Cooley In last week's column. I quoted a comment from Motorcycle News printed in England concerning the American Silver Vase 6-day trials team. At that time. it was reported they would be participating on Maicos. I have just received information that the Maico factory sent the American team a telegram after the team had left for Stockholm. Sweden stating the machines could '. not be spared. However. other factories came to the rescue of the United States team. Bud Ekins is (lOW performing on a 250cc Husqvarna and John Krizman also on a 250cc Husqvama.
