Calif. 100cc Trail Class Ist.......ACK MORGAN HODAKA RETU~N TO VENTURA Outstanding stars of sunday's American Cycle Association return engagement at the ventura fairgrounds event were sliding steve SCott and Paul Wilde. Their performances, however. did !lot overshadow the250cc trophy dash winner Ivan Oden who also won the 250cc B maio event. As before. the 1/8 mile dirt track was smooth and slidy. In the 50cc main. Paul Wilde pulled out in front with a substantial lead. In hot pursuit was #1 steve Scott on his Honda. but Steve just didn't quite have enough steam to come within striking distance of Paul and he was forced to settle for second. In the 100cc main eveni Paul Wilde did it again. won the event with a substantial lead. In second place was Rick Woods on a Yamaha and third place went to John Wiley on a Honda. John was a local boy from Ventura and placed third in this event to the delight of the local fans. Steve scott had been running in second place but went wide on Turn 3 and 4. lost his adhesion, causing him to go down. . In hot pursuit (of Oden in the 250 B Main) was Chuck Berry. A local boy from Ventura and one of the top riders in this area, Chuck is just getting the hang of this flat tracking and finds it very challenging. Tommy Bannon on his BSA was running in third place but lost traction going into Turn 1. When he recovered. he found himself in last place and in hot pursuit to make up the time he lost. went charging into Turn 3 and repeated his previous perforrmnce. Picking up his machine and getting started again. Tommy went down the straightaway and into Turn I and again slid out. By this time. the young man from Palm Springs had pretty weil had it and continued the event in last place without inspecting the course any further from his back· side, but the fans appreciated Tommy's performance and his competitive spirit tryinll to regain his front running position. The- 250Cc A main event winner was sliding steve Scott from Thousand Oaks on his Bultaco. In hot pursuit was Mike Spitzer riding James Deehan's 250 Honda•• Mike did an excellent job for his first time on the machine. proving his versatility. DeWayne Keeter continued to thrill the crowd with his wheelies in the·stratcht-aways. Earlier in the eveni. M1Ite Tillman had be-en running in third spot but aot in trouble on Turn 2 and lost adhesion.
