• • COOLIES COLUMN By Wes Cooley This week saw the running of the fi rst TT short trac k at Sou th Ga te Raceway _ We knew it could be done and it is possible to put On an excellent spectator show as well as afford an interesting race to the riders. The course is tigbt and quick and tbe rider must have the ability to make rigbt and left hand turns in tight traffic and still maintain pretty good composure coming off the short, quick jump. Plans are under way to add a weekly TT show, but a date bas not been set as yet. This coming weekend, Sunday, August 28th, will see the return of tbe ACA short trackers to Ventura Fairgrounds. If the enthusiasm is anything like it was on the 14th, the stands should be packed. This truly is a good, old-fashiooed flat track and taxes the riders' ability to really ride in speedway style. The straightaways are long and tbe corners are flat and tight. Racing will start at 1:00 p.m., practice at 12:00, pit gates open at 11:00 a.m. and it will be a Class A professional event. With tbe recent mailers out concerning a national championship road race to be beld September 18th at Carlsbad, California by the AMA, I think it is qulte ironic that tbey would choose to use tbe picture of the famous Honda 4. The AMA won't allow anything but production machines to run in their events. Are tbey trying to kid the racing fans into believing a Honda 4 will be participating? In fact, tbe recent little flyer gives me enough reason to say at least a million words abcut the forthcoming event, and we should have a great.deal of fun witb it. But I'd like to save it for next week's column when I can devote more space to it. -. • IN-RIDERS, OUTRIDERS - Get On The In-List By Robert O.
