SUZUKI'S -ROAD SlID" SERVICE SCHOOL A HIT According to Fred Moxley, bead of Suzuki's Service Department, the R~ gional Service SChool Program as d~ veloped by hi s department was "more than successful.' Jack Wa I d ron, Chief Serv ice Instructor for Suzuki credits tbe success of the program to the method of presentation of the schools. "We begin the entire training program by asking the attendees for their list of questions before the actual training begins.· "These questions are then listed separately on a flip chart, one question per page.' Queries from those attending the training school run the gamut from special tools and equipment to accessories available from firms other than Suzuki. A ner the questions are listed, the Suzuki training team of experts sets about answering all of them in detail, making certain that in add i t ion to student-asked questions other important information is presented to those attending. such as warranty data, service bulletins, etc. 'We made certain that the schools were a tw~way street, taking as many pains in asking as we did in telling,' Moxley said. "We found that many of the attendees had some sound ideas,' he continued,' and we certainly plan on following them up in next season's training program.• Over 400 service Diplomas have been issued to those who satisfactorily attended the Regional service SChools. According to Moxley, the reguiar Suzuki Service School will be conducted in Santa Ana during the months of July, August and September with a new wrinkle Honda of Gardena shop the 26 participants on 18 bikes made tbe sbort ride to Belmont Shores on Pacific eoast Highway in plenty of time for tbe swimming that was advertised in their posters. TIle first two machines were owned and sponsored by steve scott Enterprises. In third place was Chuck SaXton on a 250 Honda. Chuck ls a fairly new rider to the ACA and just recently returned from a four year tour in Japan. It looks as tbough Cbuck ls going to be a top contender in future TT events. He was able to handle his heavy Honda quite well through the trickY right and left band corners. Fourth Place went to Paul Coberly out of Harbor City on a Bultaco. Paul had quite a wild time of it. Even though he went down several times in the event, he was able to make up some of his time by some fierce riding. In fifth place was Jerry Stanley out of Alhambra on a Triumph. The sixth spot went to #33 Ted Yoder on a Bultaco. Earlier in the main event. Ted had heen runrdng in second spot but going into tbe fast left hander, slid out and stalled the Buitaco and was down for a full lap, allowing several of the riders to get by him. Ted is another young rider who is coming up strong in American CYcle Association. This was the first attempt by the ACA in the TT area and a few problems were encountered which were not expected. but all in all, the show ran off smoothly and the riders did an excellent job. Tbe eventa held were heat races. semis and main events, with ample practice for all riders. Now that we know TT events can successfully be held on this short COUlse, plans are under W83 to hold weekly TT events. (Results on page 16) • • • •
