Two-hundred and forty entries braved the 110 degree weather to pro v e their prowess. There were two courses provided. one for the trail bikes and a larger one for the big bore bikes. Jack's weD baDdled Hodaka proved the better bilIe (or IIIis JIflrticular ride. As usual the 250cc class provided many types of action along tbe course. In the Novice class George Walker astride his Bultaco. fended off second place, Honda mounted steve Ellsworth to cop first. Hard riding Al Vanderpool grabbed a good third. Greeves-mounted Steve starts combined his ability and his bikes' handling to gain first place laurels in the 250cc Amateur class. S t eve was closely hounded by second place Bill Walter who also rode a Greeves. As far as tougb days go. this was one of the tougher ones. not only on machines but on tbe riders. One of tbe 250cc Expert finishers fainted and a rider in the 650cc class was still missing wben tbis reporter left for borne.
