Bodette Is eettlne his f~lr sh~r. new face from winning the Amateur Main when he held off Johnny Isaacs the entire ten laps in the feature. Isaacs was alongside 13 times but could not pull it out for his first main event of the year. Fi ve other amateurs were right behind to again rank the amateur main as one of the best races of the night. Super smooth riding by Marty Mac Donald brought him another novice main event win. Wild Phil Todd took the lead from the start and held it until the last haH lap. Mac Donald then dove low and went on to victory and a slightly larger gap in the three way point battle. Larry 'Pruett made it 14 straight heat race wins and is now just one off the all time record. He came back but was Todd-a-obed in the final and finished in fourth but did move back into second place after Don Roberts came up with engine troubles and ran 8th. Artesia Blft. Gardeaa, Calif em) an-i1&5 ComiDC SoCIa By George Maness For many years California has been acknowledged as tbe center of motorcycle racing in America. Time after time this bas been proven when riders move bere from their borne states so they can race against tbe finest in the nation, more often than tbey can on tbeir local tracks, get a share of tbe fabled Ascot purse, and win some of tbe recognition they deserve. Ten montbs ago, 22-year-old Pat Gosch of Omaba, Nebraska came west to try his hand at the home of the champions. In those few months he has proven that be bas what Ascet takes and tbose who know this personable young man and the way be rides are certain that it'll not be long before tbere is a new name in the riders hall of fame. Pat first threw a leg over a motorcycle in 1956 and began riding sportsman events three years later. One of the highlights of his sportsman days is placing second in tbe East-West Scrambles of 1963. Tbat was tbe year be turned professional and began tbe climb to the E~ert ranks wbicb took him only three years. Now in his second year as an Expert, Pat can continue bis climb to tbe. toP. Wben on July 15th I asked what be considered- to be tbe bigh point of bis professional career to date, grinning widely, Pat quickly replied. "Making tbe Trophy Dasb tonight." Riding against tbe likes of Tanner, Scbultz and Blackie Bruce is as good a way as any to climb to tbe top. Pat likes and wants to ride every type of event, but for now has only tbe Triumph flattracker of his sponsor, Howard Barnes of Alloy Sprocket Specialties. Even though limited to the oval tracks, be is planning to tour the National circuit this year and will be riding at Springfield, Illinois in August and the twenty-mile go on tbe one-mile track at sacramento.
