Impressive is the fact that Lonnie has only been riding for two years; his first ride was the 1964 Greenhorn. The se cond loop was a blast - - all sandwashes , one right after the oth er, and they wer e a ll fourth gea r fast. I' ll guarantee you lo se poi nds in a couple of hours or yo ur money back. Hot weather was the only th ing wrong wit h the Greyhounds tha t Sunday . It was a long one -- 100 miles , an d for a new club they did a bang-up job of it. W had a tragi c fa ta l acciden t hap pen e j us t before the rac e s ta rted . It ups et me very much as it must have quite a few. 1 hat e to see anyone get hurt as 1 know how it feels, to say nothin g of what it does to you when a rider gets killed. I wanted to throw in the towel right then a nd the re , but I went on a nd rode a nyway . was se c ond place man. No one in th e sponsoring club would gi ve me a n answer. T hi rd man in was Rick Walden Jr . who had to fight fourth place man Don Watkins all the way. By the way , Don was riding bis son's trail bike which is quite a change from his old "Triless. Fi rst girl in was Des er t Dai sy T erry Bryce. At last her bike managed to stay together lon g enou gh for her to finish sixth and beat Jan Dits on. Jan was just as exc ited over T erry bein g first girl In as Te rry was , a nd it goes with out saying that Doc and Mrs. Bryc e were very pleased. Jan fi nished e ighth ove ral l. Earl Roesele r was there at the finish . He had an operation on the prev ious Monday and wasn't able to rid e, but we hope to see him out there aga i n before too much longe r.
