t rr j Wel(9)l1e to the 3rd Edition of the Cycle World Show • .. • • • • f It 's bigger and ·better t his year, with m re than 400 motorcycles on dis play in the commerci al booths, and anotber 100 i n tbe specia l custom, antique and competit ion disp lays. Bud Ekins has l oaned us several mach ines from out of motorcycl ing's past , i ncl uding the T T winning Velocette of Stanley Woods. Triumph has again offe red th e Dudek/ Johnson 230 mph Streaml iner, whic h will be in the company of tbe Harley-Davidson and Yamaha 250 stream liners and a Triumph being built to assault t he record this year at Bonneville, which Cycle World i s jointly sponsoring. We think you will agree that the most fasc inat ing entry of 1966 i s the fabulous Moto-Guzzi V-8 grand prix bike in the Berliner/ZDS booth. Virtua lly the only specimen in existence , and never before seen outside of Italy, (except for a short visit in Daytona) this bi ke stood the motorcycle world on its ear and i s capable of more than 110 miles per hour! Dick RiDS' twin-engined Triumph is back from having slaughtered the . competition in England last year. His "Two Timer" i s the only bike to ever exceed 150 mph in the quarter mile in Europe. Bob Braverman is bringing his trophy-winning TD-l Yamaba that has done almost 100 mph in the quarter, and if all goes well, Clem Johnson's fantastic Vincent "B.arn Job" will be on display. We say, " if all goes well," because it is usually either torn down to be worked on, or it is being raced. Clem assured us he would bring it to the show-if it is in one piece! ' . Paul Hunt, who recently returned from three years of raclRg the European moto cross circus, will place bis ~eautiful Triumpb/Metisse for all to see. It will lie part of the largest Metisse collection outside of Englanct. Companion to Hunt's jewel , is my Matcbless / Metisse , and a new acquisition, a specially built Metisse with Ceriani forks and a very special Villiers engine. Still another Triumph/Metisse (with road equipment, yef) comwill also be on view. petition Wbile on the bikes---John subject of Steen will show European his International Six dirt Days Trial Triumph, banle scars and all. We will add my Mota-Guzzi ISDT replica to the fold , for tbos!! who have never seen a full-fledged European trials bike. European competit i on machines wi ll also be represented by America 's first sidecar , a Triumpb/ Norton rig from England, now being raced in AFM events by Reg Pridmore. Jim Hunter's BSA 500 scrambler is bere, on one of those rare occasions when it is standing still. Mike Van Ness is sponsoring an Ascot-w inning BSA for disp lay. It joins an illustrious crowd of race winning bikes , i ncluding a 90cc Hodaka from Washington tbat wins everything in sigbt , Sbell Motors' Royal Enfield that i s the mount of Blackie Bruce, a couple of Harley-Davidson 150cc fire breathers from Jerry Branch, and a newly built 259cc Bultaco sidecar rig from the Bultaco distributors in the west. Cycle World's booth will display a Honda CRoll double overhead camshaft twin , Harley-Davidson's very latest 250Aermacchi road racer, and a few surprises you' ll have to see to believe. Some of the bikes in - tbis show were seen l ast year, but we tbougbt tbey were good enougb to repeat. We expect more tban 100,000 vis itors for this year's show, making itthe l argest i n the United States, .and a ong t he l argest in t he world. We are expecting visiting off ic ials fro Japan, Spain, England and Italy, and even a full commerc ia l trade mission from England's motorcycle industry. Not bad, for a buncb of American country oys. As in previous years, distributors of virtually every make of motorcycle in tbe U.S. will bave tbeir wares on disp lay in the " trade" section of tbe show, incl udi ng Cballengers , Spitf ires, Vi ctors , Bonnevilles, Mat adors, Scorpions, Hustlers, Big Bears, Sebrings, Atlas, Electroglides, Hawks, Interceptors, Sprites, Aces, and some witb even stranger, more exotic names. Tbere's hardly anything in motorcycling tbat will not be on display. Tbe Cycle World movie theater , under the auspices of movi e impresario, Clyde Earl , will unreel again. More tban 200 seats are available, free of charge. And, ah yes, customs! Featured N ill be the Grabowski "Six Pack, Barris side car Yamaha , a fl ock of 450 "ondas i n various dress, Triumphs, Harley-(Iav idsons and many others, all custo i zed to the teeth (but not an ape hanger i n the crowd). And even a Bat-cycle! So, welcome to tbe show, Admission i s 52.00; 50C discount tickets are available at every motorcycle shop in the west. Severa l exhibi tors, including Cycle World , are giving away free motorcycles as door pri zes, so we don't think t here will be a dull moment. Yamaha will end their " Safety-A-Go-Go" at the arena Saturday afternoon, when an anticipated 2,00 riders will st rm t e doors i t ime for prize giving. Should be pretty exciting. My thanks to Cycle Hews, and Chuck Clayton for tbis opportunity to tell you about the show. Don't miss the Cycle News booth, number 95, just to the left of tbe main entrance. By J. C. Parkhurst Editor & Publisher of Cycle World Magazine 31 ~ ..
