Carlsbad Raceway 0 wn e r Sandy Belond announced this week that not one. but both of the recent Daytona In- ternational Speedway winners will be at Carlsbad for the May 15th road race. 200-mile champion Buddy Elmore and i oo-mn e 250cc winner Bobby Winters will both be here- for the first professional cycle road race to be held in the state sin ce 1958. The EI Paso, Texas and Ft . Smith, Arkansas riders will make a s pecia l trip to California for this one event only, before again headi ng back eas t for the coming national AMA circuit that starts on May 29th in Wisconsin. Elmore and Winters both se t new course records at Daytona in March. Both are being brought to Calif. es pecially to ride on the official Yamaha factory racin g team in the Carl sbad event on May 15tb. They are al s o expecte d to e nte r the big bike race. Elmore will ride Triumph while W inters will probably be BSA-mounted. April 21, Yamaha International Corporation , one of the world' s lea ding motorcycle manufacturers, and All American Race rs , headed by Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby , announced thei r major s ponso r tieup for the forthcoming Indianapolis 500 race on May 30. Thi s is the seco nd yea r in a row that Yamaha sponso red the Dan Gurney race team. This organization is known as All American Rac ers Inc .. and their highpowered s p e c i a I racers are calle d " Ea gles " .
