You can al so ente r it from th e s outh by goin g down th e road from th e main int ersecti on in . the Univers ity City res identi a l area , foll owing th e road beside the railroad trac ks ea s t until you reac h a rail way bridge that you drive under (it' s ea s ily spo tt ed). There a re many trails, canyons , and good hills torclimbing. Rac es are frequentl y he ld here by local cl ubs on Sunday afternoons . Appar entl y there are no rest rict ions . is wide open with no s igns in s ight. It is us ed a lot and there is apparently no attempt to prevent its us e by Navy personnel. Once jnside you will find miles of trails, hills, canyons , and s ev eral ponds . It's probably bes t to stay well away from the buildings , even though they a re des e rted , s ince they may be patrolled . Als o, s omebody keeps several beehives at two locations inside - ha nds off ! Th ere are well-mai ntained, unpav ed roads throughout the area and fordi ng the st reams at many points - literally miles ofriding fun. But keep a s ha rp lookout for grazing cattle. To reach the area there is a paved road leadth e north east from Lak esid e through W cat Canyon, emerging in the ild Barona Indian Res ervat ion , and continuing on to Ra mona , a di stance of 14 miles or so . Several unpaved road s lead east a nd so uth from this paved road to an intersecti on called " F our Comers " , and from here a road runs down the s ide of the valley-a s teep drop, but eas ily handled on a bi ke.
