After three laps it is s till the same. Williams has got a terrific lead and is going li ke nob ody's bus iness. 99w had a li ttle hard luc k. His motor co nked out comin g up the hill. A beautiful. beautiful race. _ 200 - 250 AMATEUR & EXPERT This race is made up of almos t al l Modesto and Es c alon boys . Someone just went down in the far tum, did one ove r and two unde r. Th e ride r is up and running and are they fi ghting for position. Going up the hill is Terry Miller. 26b and Mike Yam . Mike 's riding an Ossa. Os s a ju s t took fi rst place coming in to the se- con d turn , second and thi rd place are Bultaco. Just look at that Ossa run, it 's about a blo ck in the lead and he 's j us t throwin g a roos ter tail all the way ar ound that fa r turn . abou t a qua rter mile roos ter tail and her e he co mes . Th er e ' s a fight for second place . Day of Escal on is now in secon d place and watch this boy come up. He 's ridin g a do uble engine Van Tech . T he 250 e xpert main was won by Mike Yarn. Th e double engine Van T ech which we didn 't expe c t to do ve ry much on this cou rse due to the fact he was way under geared came in s econd. He was runnin g his engines wide ope n . winding so high we ex pec ted him to blow up any time. Th ird place was Don La Zamo . (Note : official results omit Day & Van T ech .) 250 NOVICE Firs t up the hill was 43v . 58z and 107m. This is one bi g hairy, dirty race. They're goin g j us t allllllli over the pl ace. They're throwin g dust all ove r the place here. It ' s a wonder they can see where they are goin g. 43v is still in the lead by a half a block. 107m was doin g a wheelie coming up this hill and turn ed over in front of about four bik es which I will have a picture of. All he got out of it was broken handle bars and a grassy s eat. He ' s up and ok. 43v Bill Collins , rid es a Montesa. to ok it first from the pol e pos ition and held it all through the race. He rode it without a front wheel brake . he broke it in his fir st time up th e hill . Anoth er bike hook ed onto it and busted it off. One terrific ra ce. 200-250 EXPERT MAIN The first was Don Bryant, bringing up Ray Huff and 100z in third place. After three l aps it is now Huff , Bryant second and 100z still in third place. The battle is on for second and third place. Oh! Oh! 3m is nbw in s econd place Bryant is out and now running third and that's how sh e ende d. Ray Huff won by almost a bloc k, 3m is in s econd place , there was a battle for s econd and third place but 3m took. (Not e: offi cial results omit 3m). 500 NOVICE ' Gre g Mille r is in first place , June J e we t t from Modesto is i n second place. He worked his way up from about the fifth position. Jack Church is in thi rd p l a c e . This is June J ew ett's second rac e this year, he hasn't been racing much in the last three or four years but th e way he is going is terrific. He ' s goin g for Oh! Oh! loo ks like he has busted his chain link but he re he comes again, no it wasn 't a brok en chain. It's a fantastic take ov er of fi rs t place by June J ewett the man literal ly ju mped ove r a bike on the last lap and finishe d first plac e. FA NTASTIC.. .a beautiful . beautiful race bY J une J ewett...came from fif th place tied up in the pack and won it going a way. He made one j ump coming up the hill , came on the outside prac tically. literally. cleared a bi ke ove rtaking him on the hill an d took his fir s t plac e here . 650 NOVICE Around th e fi rs t tum was Dean Caster fi rs t place. ridi ng a BSA. second place fin isher was al so rid ing BSA, Dal e Gray, and third place ridin g a Triumph 13h. Caster took it from the first and held it all the way to the finish . 13h and Gray exchanged s pots in the last J ap. (Note: 13h is 'o mitted in res ults . ) Due to breakdowns in the 40 inch e xpert s and leaving just Ray Huff. he decided not to come out and even circle the track, so th er e was no 40 inch ex pert race . I wish to thank two fellows who helped me out in this mad hectic day today . They keep track of the bikes in the position th ey ran whil e I took pictures and th en fed the information bac k to me so that I could put it on ta pe . Her e is one of the fellows no w.
