There was a dismal dawn on the first
RRC ride of 1966, the Sociables Motorcycle Club's " New Year Run." But 184
South land riders broke out rain gear and
braved the cloudy skies and occasional
sprinkles to show up for the event at t he
Laidlaws Cycle Shop in San Gabriel.
Following a route th at took them through
severa1 cities in L.A. and Orange Coun tieS,

GENE LIND L EY: " , . , the time is ripe
to launch timed, enduro-style trials , with
courses similar to desert scrambles. A sixty
to one hundred miles check poin t event.
This should have several diff icult, observed
sections with penalties on time and fa ults,
in keeping with the English tradition."
General feeling of the meeting was that
some improvements could be made to the
Southern Cal Trials Association. Fore most
was the necessity of the Association being
a parent group, with individual clubs in
the areas of Bakersfield, San Diego, RiverSide, the moun tains and Los Angeles. Each
location would hold its own trophy even ts
with points counting towards the S.C.T.A,
trophies and a State Championship each
year . Entry to District 37 was also thought
desirable, with all trials sanctioned, thus
making possible fair and conclusive Na- .
tional Championships. The Association welcomes comments from groups in any othe r
areas who are interested in boosting trials .
