We ask Messers. Tillery and Bright, rhetorically, how much they reckon horses and ped estrians contribute for the ir longed-for "exclusive" use of public and private trails? Here we wish to state clearly that we are in favor of horses ; they fertilize the soil. And hikers are okay too, we guess. As long as they don't litter. SIERRA CLUB AT WORK? But we suspe ct that beneath th is "oversight," if Mr. Bright dared to look, he would discover the fine malevolence of the so-called "Sierra Club Vigilantes" at work. (For the benefit of those who haven't yet encountered these worthies, the Sierra Club is an or gani zation of wealthy "conservationists" who are banded together again st all motor sportsmen to keep the unpaved portion of Californ ia for their own exclu sive pleasure.) We ask Mr. Bright, again rhetorically, besides loud lobbyists and mouthpiece legislators , what has the Sierra Club contributed to this sta te? . Has anyone ever seen a license plate on a horse? r0 a d (Continued from page 1 ) Charlie Brown and the members of the Ace of Clubs pre sent ed the former LaVenne Peacor with an outstanding trophy commemora ting the many accomplishments, especially the drill team, of her late husband, Darrol Peacor. The trophy built by Henry Van Wyk's Colorcraft Co. to the specifications of Charlie Brown, features a lamp , 13 gold mot orcycles, an d a ph otograph of the drill tea m led by Darr ol. Ken Jones of the CBM present ed a plaque to J. M. Jones for Dave Case in appreciation of his voluntary service as Santa Claus to the Hope House and Samaritan Home. At the time, Mr. Case was not affiliated with the RRC. . Th e Ace of Club s took the perpetual troph y for club attendance at RRC events . Th ey attended 56$. The runners-up were the Lucky Wheels with 48.7$. Dan cing resumed and continued un til 1 a.m, interru pted only by the drawing for the Door Prizes and the installation of '66 officers. . Apparently not satisfied with t heir pre-eminence in the 250 class, Yamaha also took 1-2-3 wins at both race s in the highly competitive IOOcc class. John Buckne r In the first two road races of 1966, Willow Springs on January 9 and and Carlsbad on January 16 , Yamaha met some competition that had been rumored to be pretty stiff, and swept the boards, 1-2-3 at both races . Racing fans seemed to take the news with a "Ho hum, what's new?" attitude . Its become s uch an accepted fact of life that Yamaha dominate s the 250cc cl ass that it is only news when some other brand wins a race . At W ow it was John Buckner in a ill brilliant ride to edge out Buddy Parriott and Gordon J ennings - with all three aboard Yamaha TD-ls . The Ralph W te (#15) L eading Chuck Jones hi Pvt. Tony Murphy Although it is unlikely t hat Yamaha can duplicate last year's fantast ic 8- of-the-first- 10 record at Daytona Beach, F lorida, most experts agree that with the first 2 California races as a previ ew of th ings to corne. in '66 Yamaha is an odds- on favorite to win not only the Fl orida cl as sic but all the other 250 road rac es on the national cale ndar as well. Yamaha has become so successful in 250cc rac ing (the most competiti ve of all classes) that they appear to be disarmingly nonchal ant . As one Yamaha executive is fond of putting it: " It ain't no big deal. We just cont inue to improve our 250s and to s4Ign the best racing talent in the game. " This year the ' U. S. factory ~am reads like a " W s Who" of rac ing. ho' Ralph White, Gary Nixon, Buddy Parriott, and Private Tony Murphy whenever the U. S. Army can spare him. The machines too have been beefed up with an improved version of Yamaha's already s uperlative TO18 to be used. On the Internat ional scene P hil Read , Yamaha-mounte d World Grand Pr ix Champion in 1964 and 1965 will again ride for Yamaha. But in '66 he will campaign on an all new 250cc V-4 factory works machine along ike with team-mates Bill Ivy and M Duff. Also in store for cont inental fans will be a new factory works Yamaha twin rotary val ve 125cc machine . And for those partial to flattrack rac ing, guess what the winninge st brand is? Every year a new crop of great Novice class rider s under Yamaha colors pile up point leads at Amerca'.s best tracks . The oustanding example is Ascot Park in Gardena where Paul Conserriere and Eddie Hammond battled it out in 1964 on Yamahas . In 1965 it was Johnny Isaacs out in front, and it is a s afe bet that again in 1966 a Yamahamounted rider will finish the season on top. (ADVERTISEM ENT )
