CALIFORN IA SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20th. Plenty of rain the week before and a rougher-than-ever scrambles track made for an exciting day of racing at the Richmond Rambl ers club grounds in Richmond Sunday, Jan. 9. The club decided to run their usual course backwards this time, and threw in a couple of mudholes and a long, steep hillclimb for good measure. About 100 riders competed in the exhausting event, over a course which featured a backwards jump ( the ground just drops off beneath your bike ) and a lO-foot cliff to scale ( too fast and you shoot off into the blue. ) Don Brumbelow of San Pablo piloted his BSA to victory in the 500cc Amateur main event, followed by Jerry Parsons and Jim Snodgrass, of Richmond and ElS obra nte respectively. Th e expert events were run moto-cross fashion. Frank Diaz of San Pablo be at John Moss of Alameda (both on Bultacos ) for the 250 event, In the 500, Modesto's Ray Huff rode his BSA across the line ahead of Larry Davidson ( Tri umph) of Berkeley and T riumph-mounted Byron Fa rnsworth of Redwood City.
