LOOKING BACK
Hank Scott was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago for
winning the San Jose Mile. It was the second win in a row for Scott in the
AMA GNC Championship... We had coverage of the World Championship
500cc MX Series from Sittendorf, Austria, where Kawasaki-mounted Brad
Lackey won both motos... Rounds 10 and 11 of the AMA Supercross Series
were held at the Superdome in New Orleans, where Mike Bell and Mark
Barnett shared the glory.

The popularity of speedway racing was growing, so we featured
speedway-racing action on the front page of Cycle News 50 years ago.
Bill Cody and Don Hawley were pictured battling for positions... We
featured an interview with motocrosser Bob Grossi who had recently
returned from Europe, where he studied the style and techniques of
the European motocross riders... We featured motocross racing from
Anzac Speedway in Palmdale, California, where Billy Clements came
away with multiple wins.
