IN THE WIND P42 8th Annual Carlsbad Reunion T he San Diego Supercross once again brought with it the Carlsbad MX Reunion, taking place at Booze Brothers Brewing Co. in Vista, California, on Sunday, February 9. Plenty of industry and former racers who were in town for the AMA Supercross round took the opportunity to head to San Diego's North County the next day to share some pints, some stories and some laughs from their days racing at the famous South- ern California motocross track, Carlsbad Raceway. Organized by Scott and Debbie Burnworth, the annual event celebrated its eighth year in 2020. "Carlsbad Raceway was one of my favorite tracks all the way until I finished racing," said Scott Burnworth. "When I started the Carlsbad Reunion event, I thought it would be cool to invite every- body that ever raced at Carlsbad Raceway, fans who saw it on TV and get together tell lost stories and look at old memorabilia." The 2020 event had a good turnout of former racers including Broc Glover, Ricky Johnson, Da- vid Bailey and Jim Holley. Several racers who attended the ISDE/T reunion in Julian the night before also showed up for the Carlsbad Reunion, including Jack Penton and Lars Larson. The late, great Marty Moates' brother David Moates was also on hand, along with Ron Turner, Gary Denton, Marty Smith, Donnie Hansen, and former owner of Carlsbad Raceway Larry Grismer. Since starting the Carlsbad Reunion, the event has expanded to include a bike display. "It's for bikes of any era that might have raced at Carlsbad, really," Burnworth explained. "There's no contest; I give out prizes to everybody that brings a bike. I just want to keep it loose!" Among those who featured display bikes was Gerald Langs- ton, father of Grant Langston who also made an appearance at the reunion. Burnworth plans to continue the event to coincide with the San Diego Supercross, so plan to stop by if you're in town for 2021!
