LOOKING BACK
We pictured long-time Suzuki rider Roger DeCoster on the front page 40
years ago in his new Honda colors. Pretty shocking at the time. Elsewhere
in the issue, we showed you long-time Honda rider Marty Smith in his new
Suzuki garb!... We had coverage of the Seattle Supercross doubleheader,
which was the open two rounds of the AMA Supercross Series. Yamaha's
Mike Bell won both nights… We also covered the SCORE Parker 400
team race. The winners? Bruce Ogilvie and Chuck Miller.

A photo of Dick Mann (2) and Mark Brelsford (87) battling for the lead at
the Sacramento Mile was featured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years
ago. Dave Aldana went on to win the race after a long scrap with Mann…
Perris motocross was the place to be 50 years ago, and that's where Gary
Jones, Gary Bailey and John Rice fought it out in the 125cc Amateur/
Expert class. Jones ended up running away for the win… Wyman Priddy
was tearing it up on the local MX scene in Texas.

Cycle News following David
Vuillemin's win at the Phoenix
Supercross in 2000.
Dan Smith won the
opening round of the AMA
Hare & Hound National
Championship 30 years ago.
