They rode great all day, so I knew it
was going to be a tough main event,
but I put myself in a good situa on—I
was about third the whole me—and
me and Jason [Anderson] played
cat-and-mouse a li le bit, and I kind
of lost track of that lead group. But I
put my head down and charged and
made some me up at the end, and I
was close there. I got third at the first
round, but we were s ll pre y far back,
so I felt like we were a lot closer now."

After that, Tomac backed it down a notch and cruised to his first
win of 2020, while Roczen held off defending champ Cooper Webb
(Red Bull KTM) for second.
"It was just believing in myself and finally riding good throughout
the day," Tomac said. "Looking back now at Anaheim 1, that was just
kind of a wash for us; I was just riding around back in 10th place. And
last week was just not giving ourselves a chance at all with where I
was on the start. Tonight, I wasn't right there on the start, but I was
close enough to be in the fight, and I was really making up a lot of
time in the whoops up until probably the cross flags there [halfway],
and then it just got really hard. The whoops kept breaking down, and
the 450s just absolutely pummel that track, so the last half was defi-
nitely some management going on. And with two sets of whoops, and
then turning into a dragon's back, that was really hard. That was a
250SX West winner Dylan Ferrandis (1) left a bruised and battered
Geico Honda team in his wake. The 16-year-old Jett Lawrence (83) was
on rails before coming off the tracks late in the race.
