We featured National Arenacross racing on the cover of Cycle News
20 years ago. Buddy Antunez and Pedro Gonzales were pictured on
the front page from Worchester, Massachusetts… We had an interview
with future GP road racer Valentino Rossi… CCM was ramping up
production again after a fire ripped through its plant in Great Britain.
One of the first bikes to roll off the assembly line afterwards was the
CCM 640E, and we gave it a test.
Fred Merkel made the front page of Cycle News 30 years ago for
wrapping up the World Championship Superbike Road Race Championship
in New Zealand…We had coverage of the Tokyo Supercross, where Jean-
Michel Bayle took the win. A week earlier, Damon Bradshaw took the big
win at the Osaka Supercross… We also covered the Vintage Motocross
finale from L.A. County Raceway in Palmdale, California, and the CZ World
Championships from DeAnza
Cycle Park in Sunnymead,
California… Rusty Quesenberry
won the Dragbike! USA National
finals at Gainesville.
