Ezra Lusk got front-page honors 20 years ago for winning the Toyota
World Supercross round at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The
race was the second round of the three-round world championship,
billed as an Us-vs.-Them supercross rivalry… We covered the Bercy
Supercross in France, where David Vuillemin took the win. Jeremy
McGrath was the dominant rider but a mechanical DNF cost him the
overall victory… Mike Healey won the Hamel 100 at the Elsinore Grand
Prix… Matt Hines clinched his third NHRA Championship at Pomona.
Danny LaPorte was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 30 years ago.
LaPorte, along with Larry Roeseler and Ted Hunnicutt, captured the
overall victory at the Baja 1000 desert race… Scott Plessinger captured
his first (of what would be many) AMA Hare Scrambles Championship
in Wrentham, Massachusetts… Aussie Rob Phillis won his and
Kawasakis's first World Superbike Championship race at Oran Park in
Sydney.
