LOOKING BACK
We featured our coverage of the Baja 1000 40 years ago, and pictured on
the cover was Larry Roeseler who partnered with Jack Johnson to win
the Ensenada-to-La Paz race. Riding a Husqvarna 390, the duo covered
the 985 miles in 19 hours and 48 minutes; the Scott Harden/Brent
Wallingsford duo finished second… Mike Hannon edged out Rick
Munyon by one point to win the Buckhorn National Enduro in Oak Run,
California… We had a comparison test of the 1979 Honda XR250 and
Kawasaki KLX250.

We can't really explain the photo on the cover of Cycle News 50 years
ago, we're guessing you just had to be there. But we had a lot of local
and international racing coverage in issue 45 in 1969… In Colorado, the
Inter-Am Motocross Series visited Coal Creek Raceway in Boulder, where
Swede Arne Kring was the overall winner, while Barry Higgins was again
the top American rider, placing fifth overall… We tested the Moto-Beta
XC-100 scrambles racer… More than a 1000 riders turned out for the
Cowbell 125-Mile National in Upperlake, California.
