LOOKING BACK
Trials star Bernie Schreiber was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40
years ago to accompany our interview with the new Trials World champ.
We also covered his win at the Trick Or Treat Trials in California… We
showed you some of the MX bikes from the Trans-USA Series, featuring
Kent Howerton's Suzuki RN 400-79 and Mike Bell's Yamaha OW-41…
Mike Hannon edged out Drew Smith for the overall win at the Big
Boot National Enduro in California. The race was decided by just seven
seconds.

We said it was the "biggest race held in the United States," and it was
featured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years. Hopetown '69, held in
Simi Valley, California, had so many entries that we reported hundreds
of entries were turned away! Jim Wilson won the 500cc Expert class,
Preston Petty won the 250cc Expert class, and Brad Lackey won the
500cc Amateur division… Swede Bengt Aberg won the Inter-Am MMX
held in Salem, Oregon. The top American rider was local Bob Leach.
