We featured speedway stars on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. We
interviewed World Speedway Champion Ivan Mauger and vice champion
Barry Briggs. The two New Zealanders had been spending the recent
weeks in California schooling American racers on the local speedway
scene… Cycle News had coverage of the Mexican 1000, Ensenada-to-La
Paz off-road race. Husqvarna riders Gunnar Nilsson and J.N. Roberts
won Class 8 (250cc-plus), and Whitey Martino and Malcolm Smith,
riding an eight-speed Husqvarna, won Class 7 (250cc-under).
We interviewed 1989
