VOLUME 56 ISSUE 42 OCTOBER 22, 2019 P71 SCHOOLED Destry Abbott, the multi-time cham- pion off-road racer got the Denver EnduroCross weekend started with one of his DA8 Training classes on Friday night. The 23 riders in at- tendance got a lot of instruction and track time from Destry and his son Cooper during the two-hour session. They will be doing another Friday- night session at the Boise finals this coming weekend. STILL A VET Speaking of Destry Abbott, he won the Vet 35+ class in Denver. Because he's a former champ, Abbott often gets grief for competing in the Vet class, but he is well into his 40s and still recovering from leukemia treat- ments. Canadian Michael Dobovich finished second and Craig Thompson rounded out the podium on his SRT Husqvarna. HISTORY MAKER History was made in Denver as Shelby Turner won the Intermediate class on her KTM. She is the first female to win the Intermediate class at an EnduroCross event, and she had to work her way through qualify- ing that started in the morning with 37 entries. Fellow Canadian, Cole Wilton worked his way up to finish second and Colorado local Tell Gore rounded out the podium. Turner also won the Women's class in Denver. Beta's Rachael Gutish finished second and former Women's EnduroCross Cham- pion Maria Hahn (Forsberg) rounded out the podium. TRIPS TO THE PODIUM Denver resident Scotty Miller won the Amateur class. Jared Prosser and Morgan Tanke rounded out the podi- um. For the first time, there was a 50+ Masters class, sponsored by My Door Company. Fifty-year-old Andy Hitch took the win over Michael Kellogg and Mark Blackman. Vail Colorado's Nicole Bradford competed in both the Women's and Vet 35+ classes. She was one of the first women to ever compete in an EnduroCross, before there was a Women's class. The 47-year-old has competed in multiple ISDE events and won several off-road championships over the years. She rode strong during the daytime qualifi- ers but a few crashes held her back to fifth in the Women's main and seventh in the Vet 35+ class. Briefly... Trystan Hart won the final moto and finished third overall. He is currently third in points.
