LOOKING BACK
We showed you the latest motorcycles from Suzuki 40 years ago. We
pictured the 1980 Suzuki GS1100 and DR400 on the cover… Road
Atlanta hosted the fourth round of the Trans-USA Motocross Series in
Georgia, where Team Yamaha's Mike Bell came away with the 500cc-
class win… Records were broken at Bonneville's Speed Week. Tom
Elrod joined the 200 mph club—barely. He rode a Kawasaki, posting a
top speed 200.02 mph… A round of the AMA National Enduro Series
was held in Lucerne, California, where Mike Hannon took the win.

OCTOBER 24, 1979
We featured motocross racing from Deadman's Point in California on
the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. The smaller 100cc class was
popular at the time… We covered the final round of the CMC Anniversary
Series at Saddleback Park, where Jim O'Neal clinched the overall
championship and was awarded a brand new Greeves Griffon motocross
bike for his effort… In Pepperell, Massachusetts, the Inter-AM MX Series
came to town. Arnie Kring was the big winner and Barry Higgins was
the top American.
