LOOKING BACK
We showed our readers the 1980 motorcycle lineup from Honda, which
included the new CR125R motocrosser and six-cylinder CBX street
machine, which was pictured on the cover 40 years ago… Brad Lackey,
aboard a factory Kawasaki KX440 that featured the first-year Uni-Trak
single shock rear suspension system, won round three of the Trans-
USA MX Series at Unadilla… Steve Bast won his seventh U.S. National
Speedway Championship at Costa Mesa.

Fifty years ago, we ran a photo on the cover from Carlsbad Raceway
of local motocrossers while competing in the CMC Anniversary Series.
We were able to identify at least one of those riders in the photo as
leader Mark Venaus… Inside the issue, we also covered road racing
from Carlsbad Raceway, this time it was AFM endurance races, where
Dave Damron teamed up with Jeff Mazon on a Suzuki to win the 1-Hour
Production 200cc class. They were also the Lightweight overall winners.

it was introduced in its 1990 street bike
lineup in October, 1989. (Right) Max Biaggi

GP at Phillip Island 20 years ago.
