TX/Indian of Metro Milwaukee, Indian FTR750) led the 25-lap AFT Twins main into turn one and went all the way up to the air fence. Mees and Briar Bau- man followed the same line with Bronson Bauman (Indian Motor- cycle/Progressive Insurance, Indian FTR750), Brandon Price (Roof-Systems of Dallas, TX/ DPC Racing, Indian FTR750) and Brandon Robinson (Harley-Da- vidson Motor Company/Vance & Hines, Harley-Davidson XG750R) fanned out across the track. When the tightly bunched field stormed into turn one at the start of lap two, all hell broke loose. In the melee, the Bauman brothers were both down, and the carnage continued as Price, Stephen Vanderkuur (Amsoil/Hodder Rac- ing, Indian FTR750) and Sammy Halbert (Harley-Davidson Motor Company/Vance & Hines, Harley- Davidson XG750R) were all down. Before the start of the race, much like all day long, the track had been watered. This time instead of creating a moist IIIMY OWN RACE: 14 BRIAR BAUMAN 3RD AFT TWINS The AFT Twins Championship was Bau- man's to lose, and he almost did on the first lap of the main event. "All I know is that the track was so slimy. I was behind Jared. He basically crashed but picked it back up," said Briar Bauman. "Jared almost crashed, and once he didn't crash, he pulled out away, then Bronson was sliding on the ground, and I had nowhere to go. The last thing I saw was the crossbar of the fence, and I ducked between the outside of the track and the air fence. I checked body parts and saw that I was okay, and then I yelled out, 'Bronson are you good?' He said, 'Yeah, you good?' That was insane. God was with us on that one. They had to fix everything on the bike. We had to get a new front end and radiator on there. They had to get the thro le housing off. I can't thank the team enough. They had to hustle; it was incredible. When I got up, they said they would take the bike back to the hot box. When I went down there, it wasn't showing up. I went down to the turn and got it myself. I can't believe they got it ready. My bars were not adjusted, and on the second red, I was able to adjust them back up since we were star ng in the back anyway. Once I got the handlebars back up, it was pre y much good. The footpeg was gone, but we were fine. I went back to the top. That is what got us to where we were last year, and I figured I didn't want to quit on it now. Even though Bronson took me down out there, I had to keep going." FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FL AT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 18/SEPTEMBER 21, 2019 CANTERBURY PARK/MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA P72 Minneapolis winner Jared Mees and new champ Bauman share the victory lap.
