30 Years Ago SEPTEMBER 6, 1989 We focused on many of the new dirt bikes that were coming out for the year 2000. We featured tests on the 2000 Honda CR250R, Yamaha YZ250 and Suzuki RM125… We reported that Jeff Emig had been released from his contract with Kawasaki after getting arrested for possession of marijuana in Lake Havasu City, Arizona… Kevin Windham won the 250cc National Motocross at Binghamton, New York. Ricky Carmichael won the 125cc class and clinched the title with one round still on the schedule… Rich King won the Sedalia Half-Mile. Jeff Ward was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 30 years ago for winning the AMA 500cc National MX round at Washougal. Ward beat out Jeff Stanton and Ron Lechien while Mike Kiedrowski outdid Damon Bradshaw to win the 125cc class… Scott Parker won the Indy Mile… All the stars came out to play at the Jack Pine Cowbell National Enduro in Michigan. Jeff Russell came away with the win ahead of Terry Cunningham and Kevin Hines. Thirteen-year-old Martin "Marty" Tripes won the 125cc class at Rosarita Beach Motocross in 1969.
