FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FL AT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP P62 ROUNDS 15 & 16/AUGUST 31 & SEPTEMBER 2, 2019 ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS/SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS MEES DOUBLES BY DAVE HOENIG PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAVE HOENIG/FLAT TRAK FOTOS J ared Mees came away the big winner at both of the Springfield Miles, but it certainly was not easy. In Saturday's race, Mees beat Jeffrey Carver by 0.239 of a second, and on Monday, he topped his Wrecking Crew teammates Briar and Bronson Bauman by 0.083 of a second. While the first race was pretty much a two-rider battle for the win, Monday's 25-mile main came down to a 10-rider shootout. Dalton Gauthier won Saturday's AFT Produc- tion Twins main over Kolby Carlile and was well on his way to winning on Monday when his Harley expired just three laps from the end. Carlile was able to grab the win on the last lap over Gauthier's teammate James Rispoli. In Friday night's AFT Singles Short Track, Gauthier (D&D Cycles/Gobert Smas-/Vance & Hines, Husqvarna FC 450) topped defend- ing class champion Dan Bromley. The action- packed race featured battles all around the track, as Gauthier worked his way to the front to lead the last nine laps of the 20-lap event. JARED MEES TOPS SPRINGFIELD
