ROAD RACE
FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 8 / AUGUST 23-25, 2019
PITTRACE / WAMPUM, PITTSBURGH
P84
The big loser in race two was
Garrett Gerloff who was on course
for his first career double win
when a technical issue dropped
him from the lead on lap two and
out of the race.
In the championship, Elias
leads on 307 to Beaubier on 272.
Gerloff drops further behind in
third on 251 from JD Beach (179)
and Herrin on 173.
The penultimate round of the
2019 MotoAmerica Superbike
Championship is at New Jersey Mo-
torsports Park on September 7-8.
Third went to Herrin, who
survived a gnarly moment on lap
five when he ran off the track at
high speed while lying second
to Beaubier. Herrin ultimately fin-
ished ahead of Jake Lewis, who
even led a few laps at the begin-
ning of the encounter before
eventually fading to a season-best
fourth place, with Scholtz in fifth.
Race two saw Elias come to
the fore, but not before Beaubier
looked on course to take another
race win. With three laps to go,
leader Beaubier ran off track in
the fast chicane at the back of the
track, dropping to over a second
behind Elias.
That put the defending champion
in an inspired mood, as he relent-
lessly cut down the Spaniard's
advantage over the remaining two
and a half laps, only to come up
0.34 seconds short at the flag.
Garrett Gerloff is
well and truly on a
roll, taking race one
but failing to finish
race two due to a
mechanical DNF.
Jake Lewis (yellow
helmet) and Josh
Herrin tangle in race
one. It was no one's
fault but still ruled
both riders out of
contention.
