LOOKING BACK
Photos from Sturgis and the 39th running of the Black Hills Rally were
pictured on the cover 40 years ago… Kenny Roberts won the British GP,
while Honda's NR500 made its (unsuccessful) debut… Danny LaPorte
wrapped up the 500cc AMA Motocross National title in St. Petersburg,
Florida. LaPorte edged out Mike Bell by just three points… Scott Parker
won the Indy Mile ahead of Hank Scott and Jay Springsteen… Kevin
Davis was the big winner at the SCORE Off-Road World Championships
at Riverside International Raceway.

Tim Hart was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago.
He was part of our motocross coverage from Ascot Park in Gardena,
California. It was the first time ever that professional motocross was held
at the venue. Gary Bailey co-promoted the race, and he competed, as
well… We covered the latest motocross racing action from Saddleback
Park. Jim O'Neal was one of the big winners that day.
