and then crashed early in the first
moto while challenging for a top-10
position. He was down for almost
40 seconds but still charged to
stay on the lead lap and finish just
out of the points, in 21st. But in the
second moto, he started about
15th and fought his way forward
to eighth at the finish. It was an
impressive debut. And Unadilla is a
hard-packed, rocky, rutted racing
surface; he won the final EMX250
race last year in the sand of Assen,
Holland.
QUALIFYING
HEAD-SCRATCHER
Ken Roczen topped qualifying by
quite a margin in both sessions, but
in the second, faster session, his
time ended up being 3.2 seconds
faster than anybody else's. It was
so fast that some people wondered
how it was even possible. But it
was a legit time, and he proved it
by making both motos look easy on
his way to his first 1-1 score since
before his 2017 arm injury. But Mon-
ster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's
Adam Cianciarulo also topped the
250MX qualifiers by a large margin.
It was Cianciarulo's second time in
a row qualifying first.
CIANCIARULO

in 2020 were put to rest last week
when Kawasaki announced that

Eli Tomac (1) was awarded the holeshot in the first 450MX
moto, but even he couldn't stop Roczen from winning.
It was a good
day for Marvin
Musquin. He
gained 10
valuable points
on championship
leader Tomac.
"The first moto, I struggled a lot with my
body, and I got really, really tight, and I was
kind of just along for a ride," Tomac said.
"I guess it's a good thing we had those 50
points coming into here because today was
pretty off. I stopped a tiny bit of bleeding
there in moto two; I wanted more, but at least
it wasn't that seventh. We'll try to be better at
Budds and Indiana." He still has a 40-point
lead headed into the penultimate round at
Budds Creek.

Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing
Yamaha's Dylan Ferrandis is nothing if not
a competitor. He's been fighting it out with
Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Adam
Cianciarulo all year, indoors and out, and
even with the outdoor championship a long
