He was down for almost 40 seconds but still charged to stay on the lead lap and finish just out of the points, in 21st. But in the second moto, he started about 15th and fought his way forward to eighth at the finish. It was an impressive debut. And Unadilla is a hard-packed, rocky, rutted racing surface; he won the final EMX250 race last year in the sand of Assen, Holland. QUALIFYING HEAD-SCRATCHER Ken Roczen topped qualifying by quite a margin in both sessions, but in the second, faster session, his time ended up being 3.2 seconds faster than anybody else's. It was so fast that some people wondered how it was even possible. But it was a legit time, and he proved it by making both motos look easy on his way to his first 1-1 score since before his 2017 arm injury. But Mon- ster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Adam Cianciarulo also topped the 250MX qualifiers by a large margin. It was Cianciarulo's second time in a row qualifying first. CIANCIARULO STAYS GREEN Rumors of Adam Cianciarulo join- ing Ken Roczen on Team Honda in 2020 were put to rest last week when Kawasaki announced that Cianciarulo is going to join Eli Tomac on the Monster Energy Kawasaki team. Kawasaki exercised its right of first refusal and signed Cianciarulo instead of letting him go to Honda. This leaves Honda still Briefly... Eli Tomac (1) was awarded the holeshot in the first 450MX moto, but even he couldn't stop Roczen from winning. It was a good day for Marvin Musquin. He gained 10 valuable points on championship leader Tomac. "The first moto, I struggled a lot with my body, and I got really, really tight, and I was kind of just along for a ride," Tomac said. "I guess it's a good thing we had those 50 points coming into here because today was pretty off. I stopped a tiny bit of bleeding there in moto two; I wanted more, but at least it wasn't that seventh. We'll try to be better at Budds and Indiana."
