FLAT TRACK AMERICAN FLAT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 10/JULY 13, 2019 WEEDSPORT SPEEDWAY/WEEDSPORT, NEW YORK P82 Much like Briar Bauman had done in the AFT Twins class, Dalton Gauthier (D&D Cycles/Gobert Smash/ Seafood Atlantic, Husqvarna FC 450) had set fast qualifying time and fast semi time to sit on the pole for the 20-lap race. Gauthier pulled a small wheelie off the starting line and was quickly shuffled backward. Defending class champion Dan Bromley (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing/Roof-Systems of Dallas, TX, KTM450SX-F) took full advantage and forged into the lead with his teammate Shayna Texter right behind. Andrew Luker (Keeran Racing/Baker Racing, Kawasaki KX450F), Chad Cose (Parkinson Brothers Racing/RRR/Rod Lake, Honda CRF450R), Morgen Mischler (Waters Autobody Racing/D&D Powersports, KTM 450 SX-F) and Gauthier were all looking for a path to the front. Texter took the lead on lap three, but it was Gauth- ier that had most people's attention as he was slicing his way through traffic. By lap five, he had clawed IIIMY OWN RACE: 17 HENRY WILES 3RD AFT TWINS "I don't know how many guys I passed on the start. I didn't get a very good start, but man I got through the first corner like a champ," said Henry Wiles. "I was pre y happy about that. I thought I was going to get by Jeffrey, too. He just squirted out of there just a li le bit before I did. I think I was in fourth a er the first lap. I just had to find a way to get by Bronson. The track was pre y cool; at the start, you could ride about anywhere. I had somewhat of a game plan, and I could see Bronson was searching around a li le bit. I just stuck with my game plan, and my bike was working pre y decent. Luckily I was able to get through the first corner good. I was coming up on Jeffrey a li le bit. I was be er through three and four than him. I thought I could catch up to him and make a race of it. I made a few mistakes. I figured out what I needed to do and would start to gain a li le ground again, and then I'd make some mistakes." 37 BRONSON BAUMAN 4TH AFT TWINS "If starts paid, I'd be the winner tonight," said Bronson Bauman. "It's a really dif- ficult track. Going into turn one, I was running on a higher line in the semi, and it was working for me. It was s ll a li le slick for the first couple laps in the main Henry Wiles (17) outdueled Bronson Bauman (37) for the final spot on the podium.
