World Superbike was coming to town. We previewed the Laguna Seca
round of the 1999 FIM Superbike World Championship, and we featured
AMA Superbike racer Anthony Gobert on the cover… Tadayuki Okada
won the Dutch Grand Prix over Kenny Roberts Jr. and Sete Gibernau…
We covered the Lima Half Mile where Chris Carr chalked up his 35th
career Grand National win… Dougie Lampkin won the Wagner Cup
World Trials in Rhode Island… Ty Davis won the Loretta Lynn's GNCC.
Bob Hannah was still hauling in 1989. He was on the cover 30 years
ago to accompany our preview of the Unadilla 250cc Grand Prix.
We had an interview with Hannah who opened up about his career
(especially being selected to the 1987 U.S. MXdN team) and what was
about to be his last official race (Unadilla GP). We called it "Hannah's
Last Hurrah"… Will Davis won the Lima Half Mile… Richard Arnaiz,
aka Bugsy, captured his first AMA National Road Race win at
Road America… Ed Lojak won the
Blackwater 100.
