VOLUME 56 ISSUE 26 JULY 2, 2019 P31 Scrambles put on by the Mt. Baker Motorcycle Club, round six of the Kenda/SRT AMA West Hare Scrambles (WHS) Regional Championship Series. Series points leader Max Ger- ston added a few more points to his cushion over Beta teammate Joe Wasson, the pair running 2-3 for practically the entire race. "I was already planning on driving home with my girlfriend [after the GNCC] so we drove home right after Snowshoe, got home Wednesday because it's a 40-hour drive, then my friend who does the [local] NMA [se- ries] said, 'Oh, there's a race [at Hannegan],' but he's hurt so he just wanted to come work it for points," Russell revealed. "It was good practice, but we were up pretty late last night so I didn't get a lot of sleep, but it was still worth it; I had fun. "I got a good start and I was able to manage the race because I knew I had a gap and could ride my own race and be smooth and not over-ride." Having won his first-ever WHS two years ago on a 390 RR as well as last year, Gerston insisted his decision to try the more nim- ble 300 RR this time didn't make a difference in the final result. "Ricky Russell was laying it down today," Gerston admitted. "I don't know if I would've had any- thing for him on a two-stroke or a four-stroke, realistically. I really like the 300—it was super-light and I could just flick the thing around. If anything, it was a little too quick; for next time I might mellow it out a little bit. "It was just a tad stiff, but other than that I think the 300 was the right choice." Though he got third, hare & hound points leader Wasson wasn't entirely pleased with his day. Opting for a Rekluse/Enduro Engineering/Fly Racing 300 RR similar to Gerston's instead of his usual 430 RR, he lamented, "I just wasn't riding well. I didn't have a lot of time [on the two- stroke and] I don't think I did my suspension quite right." Joel Tonsgard ended up fourth overall aboard his Fusion Graphix/ TBT Racing CRF450R, just ahead of Beta support rider Zane Roberts who claimed the Pro 250 victory for the fifth round in a row. Blake Best on a Devol Racing Development YZ250, FMF/Maxx- is/RPM Racing KTM's Spenser Wilton, Kenda YZ450F rider Ryan Turner, TBT Racing YZ250-mount- ed Robbie Segrest and Pro 250 runner-up Dillon Sheppard on his 707 Racing YZ250FX rounded out the top 10 overall.
