The start of the 125cc class at the Southwick National Motocross took
precedence on the cover 20 years ago. Ezra Lusk took the 250cc
class win and Ricky Carmichael dominated the 125cc division… Ducati
teammates Anthony Gobert and Ben Bostrom went 1-2 at the Road
America round of the AMA/MBNA Superbike National in Elkhart Lake,
Wisconsin; Jamie Hacking scored his first professional win in the
600cc Supersport class… Carl Fogarty won the World Superbike round
at Nurburgring… Rodney Smith won the Boyers GNCC in Pennsylvania.
Jeff Stanton and Mike Kiedrowski were pictured from the L.A.
Coliseum Supercross on the front page 30 years ago. Stanton took
the main-event win and Kiedrowski the 125cc East/West Shootout…
Nobody expected Frenchman Raymond Roche to beat the Americans
on home soil at the World Championship Superbike round at Brainerd,
but that's exactly what happened; Rich Oliver won the 250cc GP
class… Kevin Schwantz won the
Austrian GP in Salzburg… Kurt
Hough won the Rose City ISDE
Qualifier in Michigan.
