Bikes, racing and people were all featured on the cover of Cycle News
40 years ago. Taking top billing was Skip Aksland who had taken victory
at the AMA GNC/Winston Pro Series road race round at Loudon… Marty
Tripes and Gaylon Mosier were the big winners at the 250/500cc
National Motocross at Sears Point International Raceway… Bernie
Schreiber won the World Trials round (the Wagner Cup) in Colorado…
Dick Burleson won the AMA ISDT Trask Two-Day Qualifier in Oregon…
We interviewed motocrosser Chuck Sun.

A photo from a hare scrambles race in Red Rock Canyon in California
was on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago. The overall winner was
Yamaha-mounted Mike Patrick… We had coverage of the Pennsylvania
State Championship National Enduro. Nearly 400 riders signed up, but
there was only one winner—David Latham… Local motocross racing was
going strong at Saddleback Park. Some of the winners included Donny
Emler (100cc Sportsman), Bruce Baron (125cc Sportsman), Mike
Runyard (125cc Senior) and Jim Wilson (250 and 500cc Senior).
